Learning Mathematics is more than just learning numbers, but learning how to think critically. This is why Mathematics materials developed by Marshall Cavendish Education equip students with problem-solving skills and critical thinking skills necessary for the
21st century. Our primary Mathematics books have been extremely successful and well received both locally and internationally. They are used by all textbook-adopting schools here in Singapore and in over 50 countries across the world.
In 1982, Marshall Cavendish co-published Singapore’s first primary Mathematics series, Primary Mathematics, with the Ministry of Education. Subsequent revisions to the curriculum placed an emphasis on problem-solving and processes in mathematical learning. Today, our primary school Mathematics curriculum features 5 key components: Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract Approach, Model Drawing, Teaching to Mastery, Metacognition and Spiral Progression.
Our aim to develop students’ mathematical thinking extends across both primary and secondary level materials, where our primary school titles contain colourful illustrations to support multi-step word problems while the secondary school titles are structured to hone both critical-thinking and examination skills.
Our Mathematics materials are also well known for its contribution to Singapore students’ consistent top performance in various renowned international studies such as:
- Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) in 1995, 1999, 2003 and 2007;
- Global Competitiveness Report in 2009-2010, 2010-2011;
- Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) in 2009.
